Happy new year! In this episode I wanted to shine a light on narrative captions, and examine how they work within the medium. Specifically how they exist against panels, their temporal qualities, and why they aren't just less kooky versions of thought balloons. I mostly use examples from Kurt Busiek's Astro City #1 and #2, but also Amazing Spider-Man #1 and Kill or Be Killed make small cameos.
