Songs: Scary Monsters, Take Out Your Air Guns, They'll Come, Wolves.
What are these remasters achieving? They are adjustments to the DLID songs to enhance their overall quality. My workflow generally follows this:
- Repairing CD rip glitches, auditory clipping, reducing resonances that exceeded the mix by ~4 dB, and other small inadequacies
- Evening the spectral balance (many of the original songs were lacking low-mids and were often highly boosted above 10kHz)
- Restoring all songs to true peak amplitude
- Side-chaining kick with bass in certain songs that had muddy low end.
- For songs that lacked instrumentation or felt empty in certain sections, I subtly added samples extracted from sections of the song to keep the dynamics more consistent.
