Gaming Knowledge - Atari Lynx and the case of rusting manual staples in sealed games

Gaming Knowledge - Atari Lynx and the case of rusting manual staples in sealed games Having picked up a number of sealed games now on the Atari Lynx, one was Kung Food which is shown in this video. We've noticed that a number of sealed titles have started to have their staples in the manual rust. All appear to be official sealed with the shelve tag and have all come from different sources.

So even in the event one or two were reseals, it's unlikely they all were. Added to that all the boxes, manuals and cartridges are mint. Apart from the rusting staples, this is an issues that needs to be address right away if it happens to you.

However it appears this is an issues with sealed only games and might well be an issue with the lack of air flow in the seal. If this is the case then, you really don't want to leave games sealed in a air less flow for more than 25 years. Could also be Atari just used cheap non galvanized staples in their manuals or the conditionals the games have been stored in at some point have caused this issue.

Our editor Riven provides his commentary on what we have seen so far. If you do see any sign of rust on a staple then they need to be removed from the manual as soon as possible. We will keep an eye on this and see if more Lynx titles we buy have this issue. Some mentions of it here on a few sealed Sega Genesis / Mega Drive games on Sega 16 bit:
