Two people face multiple charges after leading police on a vehicle chase and foot pursuit in Lynn that resulted in a serious crash, according to authorities.

Lynn police said they pulled over a car, which had a female driver and a male passenger, on Joy Street for a motor vehicle violation.

According to officials, the driver backed the vehicle into a police cruiser and almost struck two officers before fleeing the scene.

The car sped toward the intersection of Chatham and Essex streets, where it struck another vehicle and subsequently crashed into a storefront.

Video from the scene of the crash shows the suspect vehicle crashed into the storefront of Merengue Market, which is located at 197 Essex St.

The driver of the bystander vehicle, a 37-year-old man, was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries. No other injuries were reported.

“I go into that supermarket there all the time," said AJ Buruca, who lives in the neighborhood. "It could have been me walking down the street and I could have easily been hit. It’s just incredible seeing all the debris on the road and everything there.”

After crashing their car, the man and woman fled from police on foot but they were eventually caught by officers and placed under arrest. Officers recovered a firearm and ammunition from their car.

The suspects are at a local hospital being treated for minor injuries, police said.

Officials said police are still sorting out the exact charges, but the suspects will face a motor vehicle violation, firearms charges, disorderly conduct and assault with a motor vehicle.
