Protection against Phishing Attacks

Protection against Phishing Attacks Watch more Tech Dive videos here

In this video, we demonstrate how Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business detects phishing URLs, which are typically distributed through mass mailings. These URLs are used by attackers to lure users onto fake sites in order to steal their logins, passwords, banking card credentials and other valuable confidential data.

Let’s start with an unprotected system. Here we have Outlook with an email about some problems with a user’s PayPal account. The user is asked to “confirm the account”. As we click on the link, our browser opens a fake site which looks like the PayPal login page. Enter your password here, and you’re handing it over to the phishers.

Now let’s see what happens when the system is protected by Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business.

First we confirm that all the protection modules of Kaspersky Endpoint Security for Business are running. And then we repeat the same scenario, clicking on a link from a fake PayPal email.

Again the browser is trying to open that page… but this time the page is blocked by the Web Threat Protection module.

Now we can see that our Cloud analysis technology came into play here. In fact, phishing attacks are often blocked by our offline classifier on the endpoint. But in this case, the malicious link was discovered by Kaspersky Security Network because it provides more comprehensive threat intelligence.
