Permanent ban on climbing Uluru to take effect Oct 26

In Australia, hundreds of tourists climbed up Uluru before a permanent ban on scaling the iconic rock takes effect. The landmark, formerly known as Ayer's Rock, is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Australia's indigenous people, who regard the rock as sacred, have called for the closure of the trek for decades. The ban officially takes effect on October 26. To commemorate the climbing ban, the park will conduct public celebrations over the weekend.
