WNL stands for “within normal limits”, but it also stands for “we’re not looking”.
You deserve to feel better than “fine”, so if you’ve had your “hormones tested” and were told “everything is normal” but feel far from it, it’s worth taking another look under the hood.
I talk about the blood tests I most commonly order, what they can tell us about your body, and how I interpret them functionally.
The tests discussed are:
- the sex hormones: fsh, lh, estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, dhea-s, am cortisol
- thyroid panel: tsh, free t3 and t4, reverse t3 and anti-thyroid antibodies
- metabolic markers: hba1c, fasting glucose and insulin, cholesterol
- nutrients and markers of nutrient status: b12, ferritin, vitamin D, CBC
Inflammatory markers: crp, esr and homocysteine.
