Dust Storm Turns Surrounding Orange In Australia

Dust Storm Turns Surrounding Orange In Australia A terrifying dust storm turned the surroundings orange for more than an hour today (Feb 7) in New South Wales, Australia. Video of the phenomenon was captured in Penrose Park, Silverton, at around 5:30pm local time. It subsided just after 6:30pm. Residents said the dust storm was ''the worst we've seen so far'' and feared they ''could get lost'' in the thick blanket of dirt swirling through the air. Australia has been plagued by apocalyptic dust storms in recent months. They are caused by a combination of droughts and strong, sudden winds. Dry conditions cause the dark orange and brown top layer of soil to become loose which is then picked up and flung in the air during stormy, windy weather.
