Police use tear gas during Tehran anti-govt protest

Police use tear gas during Tehran anti-govt protest Police used tear gas as protesters took to the streets of #Tehran on Sunday amid a growing public outcry against the government after it admitted accidentally shooting down a Ukrainian passenger jet, killing 176 civilians, after initially denying responsibility for several days.

On Saturday, #Iran's armed forces admitted the plane was "unintentionally" shot down after it was mistakenly identified as a cruise missile by Iranian air defense systems.

Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA) flight #PS752 was shot down minutes after take-off from Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport on Wednesday, sparking a diplomatic spat as Western leaders blamed Iran for the incident, which the Iranian government at first denied.
