Staffless Libraries: A Bad Idea. Reason #31 (Patron Safety)

Staffless Libraries: A Bad Idea. Reason #31 (Patron Safety) The Toronto Public Library (TPL) has no safe way to prevent patrons from being followed into Staffless Libraries.

In fact, TPL makes you, the patron, responsible for not getting followed in!

To use one of TPL’s Staffless Libraries, you must first sign their liability waiver/registration.

Aside from agreeing that TPL and the City will NOT be responsible for any assaults, injury or loss of property while in the Staffless Library, TPL also makes the patron responsible for admitting only themselves and any accompanied children.

So what do you do if you're been followed in? The “Emergency” phones are beside the entrance doors. You’ll have to squeeze past the person who just followed you!
