Kim Jong Un Opens Hot Spring Spa Complex in Yangdok Mountains

Kim Jong Un Opens Hot Spring Spa Complex in Yangdok Mountains North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has opened a new hot springs spa complex in the mountains of Yangdok County, a couple of hours' drive from the capital, Pyongyang.

State media on Sunday showed Kim cutting the ribbon during the official opening, although it did not mention when the ceremony took place.

The new spa includes a ski slope and horse riding area.

North Korean media have been reporting on its construction for the past year, highlighting it as a showpiece project closely associated with Kim.

The Yangdok spa is the latest in a string of large-scale projects which North Korea presents as benefiting its people, and which might also be used to attract foreign tourists.

Under Kim's watch, the first of these was the Maasik Ski Resort.

Another big resort near there, at Wonsan, is still under construction.

The latest resort opening came just weeks after Kim visited the joint North-South resort area at Mount Kumgang and heavily criticised the South's involvement there.
