=============================================
To make the image in your videos look more dimensional and lively, you need to refer to video shooting basics. The rule of thirds helps you fit things into the composition of your film, but it can’t save the video from looking flat. And here comes the perspective! Many people know how three types of perspective work in art. But what about filming? Let’s see what kind of footage a specific type of perspective works best for!

0:38➤ LINEAR PERSPECTIVE
Linear perspective (or one point perspective) is called this because it’s shot so that there are lines receding into the distance and converging on a single point. A building, fence, bridge, river, road or anything else will do here. And if you’re shooting at home, you can use bookshelves, wardrobes and walls. Check out the way this artistic technique was used in the movie “The Shining” directed by Stanley Kubrick. Of course, optics can’t create perspective out of nowhere, but wide-angle lenses and portrait lenses with a focal length under 50mm will enhance the perspective, while telephoto lenses with the focal length over 100mm, may reduce the perspective.

1:41➤ CURVILINEAR PERSPECTIVE
Curvilinear perspective is also called spherical perspective. If you’re already familiar with a fisheye lens, chances are you’ve already seen spherical perspective. Because of the space distortion, the picture gets more voluminous as things get in the frame. It's as if there was some peripheral vision. Quite an unusual and rather unexpected case of its application was in the movie called “The Favourite”. You can also notice this kind of perspective while watching extreme sports videos captured with an action camera.

2:23➤ COLOR AND AERIAL PERSPECTIVE
Color perspective is achieved by muffling object contrast as objects become more distant. Aerial perspective is created by making the contour less clear and the color less saturated as the objects get more distant from the viewer. You might be confused, since tonal and aerial perspective are commonly treated as one and the same. But if you wanna nerd out, these are two different phenomena. When it comes to tonal perspective, it’s mainly about the color and contrast, while aerial is also about sharpness. You have to remember this while thinking of shot framing.
