Dr. Oz fanned out the letters that Chris Watts wrote to Cheryln Cadle as the season 11 premiere episode of the Dr. Oz Show aired on Tuesday, November 12, 2019. To the outside world and on social media, Chris and Shanann Watts seemed like the perfect couple, said Oz. Chris Watts confessed to killing Shanann to his dad, said Oz, after first claiming his wife was guilty of murder. But Watts would be ultimately found guilty of killing his entire family.

Watts was sentenced to life in prison but the public was left with many questions. Cheryln Cadle sat with Dr. Oz to help answer some of the questions of what turned Watts into a seemingly good dad into a murderer. Cadle had never written a book before, nor had she reached out to a murdered before. But the “Letters From Christopher” author said she felt called to write the book after seeing Watts on the porch begging for his family to come home.

Cadle said she knew Watts seemed guilty. One of the things that struck Oz as a dad and granddad was that Watts admittedly to killing his daughters twice. Cadle said he smothered Bella and CeCe with a pillow from their rooms. Both girls got up and saw Watts wrapping Shanann in the sheets. Bella was crying. She had bruises above her eyes. She had been traumatized. CeCe, the younger child, was more confused. They watched Watts dragging Shanann down the stairs. She was too heavy for him to carry, Cadle said.

Their little feet were dangling on top of their Mommy, Cadle said. Dr. Oz’s crowd moaned. He was the one who was entrusted to take care of them. Bella put up a fight and said, “Daddy, no.” The recently-retired mom and grandma who is Cadle thought about her own 3-year-old granddaughter. It hurts her to think about her even skinning her knee. Cadle’s voice broke and her eyes watered.
