I was so scared as I got up and walked towards the front of the class. It was silly really, no one would know that I was doing anything wrong. But I felt like all eyes were watching me. I got to the front of the class where Mrs Hooper was sitting behind her desk, marking work. I hesitated amoment too long. She looked up at me and asked if anything was wrong. I lied and said no. Then I dropped my essay into the tray on her desk and walked away. I knew that this could be the moment that changed my life. I would either get a great grade, or expelled.I suppose I should tell you why I was so worried, just about handing an essay in. I’m Hayley andI’m 15 and to be honest I have never been that great at school. I mean, I’m good at some thingslike gym and football and..... eating lunch, does that count? Yeah I know it doesn’t really. What I’m trying to say is that I’m not great at the academic stuff. This year I’m finding really hard, especially as Mrs Hooper as my English teacher. She gives mesuch a hard time. It’s not my fault her lessons are so boring I can’t concentrate. But she is failingme and said last week that if I get another bad grade I might have to retake the whole school year!Another year at school? No. Way. I had to do something.I knew that I couldn’t turn my grades around by studying so I turned to google. It turns out online there are so many websites for buying essays. You can buy ones which are already written or you can pay someone to write one especially for you. After a lot of research I found someone to write my essay for me. She promised it would only take two days. I asked hernot to make it too good, as that would give it away as not being me. A ‘B’ grade would be fine. So that was why I was so nervous about handing in my essay to Mrs Hooper. It wasn’t really mywork. But it was done now.Two days later I got the essay back. It took me a minute to get the courage to look. When I saw it she had graded it a ‘B’ and written ‘Great effort Hayley. Well done.’It was so easy I decided to do it for all of my essays. I bought another couple from the same woman, then I decided that my English had improved and asked her to provide an ‘A’ grade essays. By now my friends had started to notice and were getting really jealous of my grades. I told them I was doing well as I was spending my evenings revising. But my best friend Luke knows me well enough to know that I spend my time playing football or on my Xbox, definitely not revising. In the end I confessed to him what I had done. He was so impressed that he begged me to put him in contact with my seller. I refused at first, but then I thought I could make some money from this. So I told Luke that I would get his essay written for him, but he had to pay me and I would get it. I charged him enough that I made myself a profit. Clever, huh?
The next day after school two of my other friends came up to me and asked me for essays. It turns out that Luke can’t keep a secret and told them! I was worried that I would get found out, but then I thought I can make more money from this. So I told them I would sell them essays, but for more money than I charged Luke. They grumbled at first, but then I told them it was that or nothing and they paid up.
After a couple of weeks I was selling essays to almost ten students. I was making enough profit to buy new games whenever I wanted. It was a good job I wasn’t having to study, as my new business was taking up a lot of my time. We got into a routine of meeting on a Friday lunchtime for me to take their orders and get their money. We did this for a few weeks and it was going well. Then one day it all went wrong. I had taken everyone's money and everyone had gone when I heard someone come into the room. I thought it was a late student wanting to buy an essay, so I asked them what they wanted to buy.But they didn't respond. They just cleared their throat just like an adult. Then I realised it was an adult! I turned around and saw it was Mrs Hooper! Her arms were folded and she looked really angry. I jumped up but dropped my envelope of money on the floor. It went everywhere. I pickedit all up and made up some lame excuse about the money being for my lunch. But Mrs Hooper didn’t buy it. In fact, she told me that she knew exactly what I was doing. She said that she wanted a list of every student who was buying essays and she wanted details of the website I was buying them from. She said that if I did this for her then I might get off with justa warning. If not she would make sure that I was expelled.
