Letting Players Quest for Specific Magic Items? | Nerd Immersion

So this is something I've offered to players in past campaigns and I'm going to offer it to them again now. They can pick magic items that they like/want for their character, tell me, and then I can build lore and encounters into my game as ways for them to obtain them. I like this concept cause it ultimately gets the players what they want and takes away some of the guesswork.

What do you think? Do you like this idea, have you used it in your games?
