FACES OF WOMEN FISHER FOLK BARBADOS: SYLVIA WHITE This is part four in a series of short films by Women Fisher Folk Barbados, a research project managed by Dr Debra D. Joseph of The Social Work Unit, UWI, Cave Hill Campus, Barbados. This research project is funded by a Staff Research Award from the University of the West Indies School of Graduate Studies and Research.




Our research forms part of the Gender in Fisheries Team (GIFT) Research Framework. It examines the livelihood assets the women possess, the livelihood strategies they use, and livelihood outcomes they may need.




The Women in Fisheries-Barbados small case studies examine how women contribute to the survival of their families and the fishing industry. It will give insight on the roles, livelihoods and resilience of these women and the identified gaps that need to be addressed.
