Reversing its previously long-held stance on iPhone repairs, Apple will start supplying parts to independent shops for the first time.
CNBC reports Apple will offer independent repair shops access to parts, tools and guides for common out-of-warranty repairs.
Apple later said when a repair is need, customers should have confidence the repair will be done right and is handled by a trained technician.
The iPhone maker says the new program is free to join, but shops must employ an Apple-certified technician.
Apple will launch the program in the U.S. first, before rolling it out to more countries.
