China urges Canada to release Meng Wanzhou immediately

Beijing is urging Canada to immediately release Huawei's CFO. Earlier, Canada's foreign minister said the authorities are following the rule of law and arrested Meng Wanzhou according to its extradition treaty with the U.S. Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang said, "The U.S. and Canada have abused their bilateral extradition treaty and arbitrarily taken compulsory measures against a Chinese citizen. It is a serious violation of the legitimate rights and interests of a Chinese citizen."
