A smart patch that promotes shoulder repair

A smart patch that promotes shoulder repair Our bodies have an innate ability to mend themselves, skilfully knitting together injuries. But as we age, the cells that action this healing process become inefficient.

This has serious implications if we injure ourselves when we’re older. Around a quarter of the population over the age of 60 suffer from tears in the rotator cuff, the muscles and tendons which stabilise the shoulder joint and help it move. This condition is often extremely painful and can lead to difficulty doing even basic activities.

Scientists at Oxford University, working on ground breaking bio-active technology, have found hope. Watch the animation and find out more via: www.oxfordsparks.ox.ac.uk
