Country needs foreign assistance in aftermath of attacks State Minister of Defence, Ruwan Wijewardene on Thursday said Sri Lanka needs foreign assistance to beef up the security in the aftermath of Easter Sunday attacks.
He said this in response to a question asked by a journalist after the commissioning of the SLNS Gajabahu vessel by President Maithripala Sirisena.
With the commissioning of this ship, which was an ex-vessel of United States Coast Guard Cutter (USCGC) ‘Sherman’, would be the lead ship of the fleet of vessels of the SL Navy (flagship).
Commenting on a questioned raised by a journalist that receiving such a vessel specially from USA, the minister said not only for the SL navy, but the US government also assisted Sri Lankan tri-forces in many ways to strengthened the security.
“Not only the USA, but also several other countries such as, China, India, Pakistan and England are assisted our forces, especially after the Easter Sunday attack. To beef up the security in the country we need to obtain as much as assistance from foreign countries,” the minister said.
