Brooks Koepka found another reason to feel disrespected

Brooks Koepka found another reason to feel disrespected PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. — The chip on Brooks Koepka’s shoulder just got bigger than the body of water to the left of Pebble Beach’s famous 18th hole, which happens to be the Pacific Ocean.  “There’s a commercial [running] now where I’m not even in it, and Fox put it up for a preview of the U.S. Open,’’ said Koepka, who’s the two-time defending U.S. Open champion “So I don’t know. You guys [reporters] tell me: I wasn’t on ‘notables’ after winning. It’s just mind-boggling how … it’s like, ‘really?’ Like, how do you forget that? It doesn’t make sense to me.  “I actually didn’t see [the Fox promo] for a long time. A bunch of people on Twitter tagged me in it, in the promo, and I guess they were amazed that I wasn’t in it. I just clicked on the link and saw it and watched it. Just kind of shocked. They’ve had over a year to kind of put it out. So I don’t know. Somebody probably got fired over it or should.’’  Fox has Koepka featured in three of its four promos, according to Golf Digest.  Tiger Woods continues to sound as if he’d like to be a part of the U.S. Olympic golf team in 2020 in Tokyo.  “Yeah, [an] Olympic gold medal would be a hell of a feat,’’ he said. “First, I need to qualify. It would be exciting if I got a chance to represent the United States in the Olympic Games. I don’t know how many more times I get a run at it. Next time, I’ll be 48. So I don’t have that many chances of playing for the United States in the Olympics [and] it will certainly be an honor if I were able to represent the United States.’’    Woods missed virtually the entire 2016 season, when golf returned to the Olympics, recovering from back surgery.  Woods, who grew up in Southern California, recalled the first time he saw Pebble Beach at age 10 with his father, Earl.  “The first time I ever played it I played with Pops,’’ he said. “And [it’s] hard to believe that it was under a hundred bucks to play. My dad made a vow that he would never, ever play a round of golf where you had to play a hundred bucks or more. So luckily it was still under a hundred bucks then and we got a chance to play Pebble Beach.’’  Funny moment: Late Monday afternoon, an assistant pro at Spyglass, one of the golf courses next to Pebble Beach, got a phone call from Dustin Johnson asking if he could play a few late-day holes and the pro had to turn him down.  All of the Pebble Beach resort courses, Spyglass, Spanish Bay and Poppy Hills have shot-gun starts in the morning and afternoon and no one is allowed to play after the two outings are finished. Not even the No. 2 ranked player in the world.
