Learn, how dabbawala's carry out world's biggest Supply Chain management with 99.999999% efficiency. This Year, Nashik Entrepreneurs' Forum and its audience got to know how Mumbai Dabbawala carry out their day-long operations with zero errors. Dr. Pawan G. Agrawal carried out his PhD research in "A Study & Logistics & Supply Chain Management of Dabbawala in Mumbai". He presented his results on the efficiency of Dabbawalas in various fora. The audience was amazed when they got to know that, this operation utilizes no logistics technology whatsoever, and the aforementioned mostly illiterate workforce. Between 175,000 and 200,000 lunch boxes are moved each day by 4,500 to 5,000 dabbawalas. They are always on time to receive the tiffin-boxes and deliver to the respective customers. Every task is done depending on the assigned code, colour, or symbol. A single dabba goes through six dabbawalas before it reaches the consumer. The same rule applies for its return trip. In 1998, Forbes Global magazine, conducted a quality assurance study on the Mumbai Dabbawalas’ operations and gave it a Six Sigma efficiency rating of 99.999999%.
