‘Kidnapped’ newborn unharmed after mom threw her down ravine: cops

‘Kidnapped’ newborn unharmed after mom threw her down ravine: cops A 7-week-old baby miraculously survived being hurled to the bottom of a 75-foot North Carolina ravine — allegedly by her mother, who claimed the child was kidnapped, cops said.  Krista Noelle Madden, 35, told police her newborn named Shaylie was kidnapped hours before the child was discovered unharmed Thursday, according to the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office.  “By the grace of God we are standing here with a child that’s been discovered and is alive,” Henderson County Sheriff Lowell Griffin said.  Police launched a search for the girl Thursday after a 911 caller reported Madden and the newborn were in danger.  Authorities traced Madden’s cellphone and tracked the mom down on a rural road — where she claimed she escaped masked attackers who took off with her daughter.  But within hours, Shaylie was discovered unharmed when a homeowner checking her mail Thursday heard the baby’s cries. She sent her husband, Scott Fowler, down to retrieve the little one, according to news station WLOS.  “We heard a baby crying. And my wife said ’Scott, there’s a baby crying down there,” Fowler told the news station. “I went to looking and I seen it down over the bank. So I went down and got it.”  He said the baby girl was “in good shape” but added: “I’m thinking, ‘What kind of human being can do this?”  The child’s mother was questioned at the police station and her kidnapping story unraveled, authorities said. She was charged with attempted first-degree murder Friday and booked at Henderson County jail.  “All indications lead us to believe at this point that she acted alone,” Griffin said. “She did provide enough information about her involvement that gave us the probable cause…and we came to the conclusion to move ahead with the attempted murder charge.”  With Post wires
