Japan: Trump vows to ensure 'fairness and reciprocity' in Japan deal

Japan: Trump vows to ensure 'fairness and reciprocity' in Japan deal US President Donald Trump said he hoped a new US-Japan deal would address the bilateral trade imbalance that currently favours Tokyo, while speaking at a press conference soon after his arrival in the Japanese capital, Saturday.

"It's my sincere hope that the Reiwa era, the economic ties between the United States and Japan continue to grow deeper and stronger if that's possible. I think we right now probably have the best relationship with Japan that we've ever had and that goes back a long way but I don't think it has ever been better," the US leader said.

Trump's visit to Japan comes as Washington is reportedly considering imposing tariffs on Japan's car exports, but the president suggested he's committed to negotiating a new bilateral deal, with trade high on the agenda as he meets with Prime Minister Shinzo Abe on Monday.
